Codelympians: A Year of Growth and Success in Coding Education

Codelympians is a club dedicated to providing coding opportunities for both beginners and advanced students. As the founder of the club, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring over 20 students and guiding them to create their own purposeful projects. In this first year, I consider the club’s launch a success, although we have plenty of room to grow.

Our executive team has worked diligently throughout the year, and together we’ve presented a total of four unique coding projects. Of these, two have been fully completed and are showcased above. The projects include developing a route-finding tool for our school campus aimed at parents, creating custom Minecraft mods, and building a physics simulation engine, among others.

Beyond these projects, we've also focused on preparing students for competitive coding challenges, specifically the USA Computing Olympiad (USACO). For beginners, our curriculum has included teaching fundamental Python concepts such as loops, conditional statements, and functions.

Key Learnings and Future Plans

One challenge we faced this year was students struggling to meet project deadlines. In response, we’re implementing changes to improve accountability and ensure steady progress next year. One major change will be introducing weekly homework assignments to help track their learning and project development more effectively. Additionally, we plan to implement our school’s DX platform—a system currently used by teachers to assign homework—to better manage and monitor student progress in the club.
